Pway a Weal Cwass

The Soldier is easy to pick up, and even easier to suck at. But in the right hands, he’s a 200-HP, lean, mean, rocket-firing death machine of doom. Just head to YouTube and search “soldier frag” if you want to feel inadequate.

Point is, climbing up the soldier skill curve is often difficult. Maybe you need a little help.

PandaPooPs has put together what may well be the best TF2 class tutorial ever made. In ten minutes of utter ownage (with some of the most eye-popping airshots I have ever seen – better than 90% of frag vide0s), he teaches you, the soldier noob, how to pway a weal cwass. You heard that, private?

Now, if you’d excuse me, I’m going to be off crushing some maggots. SCREAMING EAGLES!

Sadly, he is right about pyros and airblasting…

Phshaw. It’s not possible to not at least contribute a little damage as Soldier.

Though now that you mention it, it’s possible to suck at any class you pick up.

    Except Pyro.

    (loltrolling)

  7. Alec responded on 23 Jun 2009 at 3:09 am #

It’s easy to suck as a pyro.

The usual way is to completely ignore danger. Rockets? CHARGE. Heavies? CHARGE. Sticky traps? CHARGE.

    You get the idea.

    Oh, the video’s cool too.

Wow, now even I want to try out soldier… not that I’d be any good or anything.

Also, hopefully some of you still remember me…. I haven’t died, but my motherboard has, and I’m waiting on a replacement. I’ll be on the server ASAP, which is sometime this week.

    Yes, it’s very nicely done.

Hey, I played Soldier and well, that works. 3/1 KDR in a regular pub, 2/1 in nocrits nospread teamplay.
Well, the other team sucked every time, but that was fun.

I never touch soldier because I suck at direct combat. I stay with spying and engineering cause I like my killing in two flavors: sneaky bastard and camping bastard.

    Still a pretty awesome video.

  24. FlyingHat responded on 23 Jun 2009 at 9:01 am #

Play more scout, then you can add literal bastard to your list.

What does the cl_interp command do? I tried it out and I haven’t noticed much difference yet. I thought that it might reduce the delay time between firing shots but I haven’t noticed a difference. Also, if he suggests 0, what’s the default setting?

Really nice music. As for the video…weeeell I’ve pretty much consigned myself to the fact I’ll never be that good of a Soldier. S’why I don’t play him much.

Soldier is my most played class, and after watching this video, I still suck. This kind of stuff can’t be taught, you just have to practice

How are these some awesome air shots? They were the completely basic ones, most of them were juggle shots. Not trying to say he’s bad, but everyone with more than 100 soldier hours can do those. Really not that hard.

I’m amazed at how I almost never played Soldier in TFC, but in TF2 it’s always one I reach for. It’s all about the verticality, I think.

Great tutorial…I’m constantly pausing to read – it flies by pretty quick sometimes.

  39. Mecha responded on 24 Jun 2009 at 9:36 am #

Saiko, you are correct, those are some pretty standard airshots for a competent soldier. However, they’re still an important part of playing the soldier class, and you don’t see people being shot out of the sky often in regular servers.
