The REAL Way to Play Pyro: Myth Busted
Okay, ignore all this stuff I’ve told you about being a good pyro. Using your airblast, other tools, avoiding W+M1…it’s wrong. Just follow Hamps’s guide to skillfull pyroing.
1) Remove all the keys on your keyboard.
2) Re-add W.
3) Pull out the right mouse button of your mouse.
4) Play Pyro.
A worse movie for motion blur there is not.

OMG! Now I see… I’ve been playing Pyro wrong this whole time! Thank you for informing me of this. No more of those terrible “tactics” and “skill” I used to have! No more multiple dominations, MVP life-style and the the satisfaction of being credit to team! No sir, none of that for me! This video has just about as much of a point as “World of Roguecraft” had back in the day, where a Rogue in vanilla WoW killed people without any gear except two 1dps daggers.
In either video you see a dude who knows how to play the class picking on clueless opponents.
Of course we don’t get to see the scenes where he walked two feet in enemy sight and got killed by rockets and grenades that could’ve been easily avoided if he played the class to its full potential.
Seriously, he runs into a horde of players and manages to take 3 down, leaving 2 in flames before being killed.. that’s 5 idiots in my book.

THIS VIDEO, NOR THIS ARTICLE, IS SERIOUS.
Do you really think I, a person who raises a skilled Pyro from dirt, think this is good? Do you really think the creator of this Youtube video, Hamps, thinks he is the best Pyro ever? I’d hope you guys would realize he’s proving how devoid of skill somebody can be to get kills as a W+M1. True, you can get more kills from properly playing. True, people enjoy you more. But a class that you can dominate and reach the top of the scoreboard by PURELY W+M1ing (this guy has nothing but W, M1, and a scroll key).

I love how the Pyro-biased commenters are saying that the other team is unskilled in the fact that they can’t kill a W+M1-ing pyro.
The thing is, W+M1 is still too rewarding. BB? Really? Unfortunately the normal flamethrower is better at encouraging skilled play as the pyro. If any.

I know my keyboard, underneath all those buttons, is quite filthy. But I will NEVER show it in all its dirty glory in an Internet video.
It’s quite a costly (both money- and time-wise) gambit to consider using only and only the ‘W’ key and a wrecked mouse with only M1 functioning. The key to playing well as a Pyro is to know where and when to spray the flames, and knowing when to resupply.
But really, this video is made with a bunch of idiots as the opponents.

Ladies and gentlemen, are you tired of having to have TWO hands to play pyro? Want there to be an easier way? I present to you….(drumroll) +forward! This magical console command will make you too be able to play pyro as well as most people but with only M1!
(I actually used this on the UC server on pl_ frontier and I made the top of the scoreboard. No joke. Ill write a post about it sometime mabye.)

I dunno about anyone else here, but the mouse part was a bit painful. I mean, not bothering to clean the crappy low-end keyboard he’s using, but still destroying a G5 to make his point?
Certainly, he wins at exaggeration, but at least use a mouse that does not cost 70$. What would have prevented him from buggering up a crappy old ball mouse instead?
All the same, his loss I guess. And the video itself was highly amusing; the video editing and implementation were pretty much top notch. The flying words/running pyro section was particularly choice.

Seriously, Pyro is the easiest class to play, the most rewarding, and the fastest heavy hitting class in TF2.
Theres a reason its the number one played class, enter any pub server and i can quarntee atleast 4 pyros on each team(Assuming no class caps). Burning damage should be removed or receive a damage reduction to compensate.

Yeah, because Shotguns and the Flaregun don’t exist. If you consider Pyro close range, you should put the backburner away and try using the Airblast.

I agree with noobie, both the description on the video and parts of the video itself kind of lead people to believe that the author actually believes this stuff. I mean, take a look at the description: “None of this is cherry-picked”. What? I’m pretty sure that if that’s true, he then had the whole server working for him to be as stupid as possible.

Hm, well this is certainly an intereseting video, but as a person whose main is Pryo, it is certainly disappointing to see W+M1 working so well. It’s a shame really, no matter what they do to the Pyro, people will always hate him/her. The Pyro just can’t win either way.
Reduce afterburn? Then people say things along the line of, “The Pyro’s a noob class AND useless. Anyone who plays him cannot truly appreciate Team Fortress 2.” (was actually said on the Steam forums)
Help the poor guy out witih some longer, harder hitting burn? Then you get, “The Pyro’s an overpowered noob class who should never have been included in the game in the first place. TF2 would be much better with just 8 classes.” (also actually said on the Steam forums)

Unfortunately the pyro IS very popular among newbies and noobs alike. All he needs is something that decreases the rewarding nature of W+M1.
Too many pyros use W+M1 and that’s the problem. And they keep using it, why? BECAUSE IT SOMEHOW WORKS.
They could care less if they help their team, all they want is their precious kills that shouldn’t be rewarded to them.

Other team didn’t have a single level 3 sentry or a Heavy. And Soldiers were maybe in 2 clips (Pyro died against them in both). Not to mention that there was a serious lack of Medics.
So yeah, if you can find that type of “Team” you will do well as Pyro.

Afterburn should just last until you’re healed or dead but do severely less damage. That way you’ll at least have time to heal but you won’t be able to attempt anything else.

Personally I find the video hilarious, and I’ve no reason to think it might be rigged or cherry-picked.. you play pubs, you’re going to go up against morons on occasion.
Pyro is my primary alt, and it’s a beautiful, beautiful class. I can make every other class rage and demand nerfs/claim hax. Like it or not, W+M1 is part of every Pyro’s arsenal of tactics. Pyro isn’t built to tank or camp – his arts are confusion, fear, and intimidation. Sure a W+M1ing Pyro is easy to kill, but tell me you’ve stared into the rapidly approaching wall of flame and never lost your nerve.
I will never stop loving this glorious masked man, and those who can’t handle the heat should get out of the dustbowl

Hilarious video.
I tried playing with waving the mouse around like that, but I had to stop because the blur was making me ill.
Now, a lot of people are making the usual comments about Pyro being a noob class. The thing is, that the Pyro is an easy class for beginners to pick up and play, but it is very difficult to be really good at it. Personally, I think that the Pyro has one of the steepest skill curves in the game, and every one I’ve encountered (or seen on YouTube
) seems to be one of three types: the W+M1, the reasonably skilled flare/shotgunner and airblaster, and the ridiculously ninja pyros like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndZoP4yctqA.
Anyone who has watched that video and still claims that Pyro is an easy class for unskilled players has something seriously wrong with them.

You DO realize that crazy good Pyro has had 33 hours and a major Sniper player, taunting the fact that the Pyro is a noob class?
Although I’ve incited rage, I only showed this as a joke. I thought it funny somebody used JUST those two keys (and scroll button and T if you wanna be picky) and still got plenty of kills. I still believe skillful pyros take time and get more rewards, but W+M1 is too rewarding. That’s it.

Haha, hilarious video. Although I don’t think this proves anything. Try doing this in 6v6 or at least against some pub players who know how to handle W+M1 pyros. The funny thing is that if a pyro does this he’s easily killed at mid range, but if a Heavy would do the same thing he’d be much harder to get rid of because he has so much hp and the minigun can deal a quite high amount of damage even at mid and long range.
