W+M2: Hot Air

What happens when you get a bunch of unconventional Pyros together and give them Fraps and an empty server? A tutorial of how they do it! This is a video by Gamefr34k on the intricacies of Pyro and how to use the compression blast in everyday megalomaniac industry fighting, from blasting people off cliffs to CB-jumping. At 25 minutes, this is a sit-down, but one well worth it.

That is unbelievably informative. I had little to no respect for the pyro before (knowing how easily they go down), but now I might just get back to playing it ;-)

You said you’d bring them together, but you actually did! =O

Opinions: Nicely done. The biggies I mostly had (mostly), but it’s the smaller things that really make you a good Pyro.
Music was awesome, especially considering that I was mainly paying attention to the video.

Other opinions: We don’t need more good Pyros around! WHY TPMX WHY.

Hurr hurr Himmel r teh nub.

Clarifications: *the smaller things I learnt*

Seriously. Although considering I play more Spy and Demo than my 3rd Pyro, I’m not sure whether to be happier or not. XD

Wow, this is fantastic! I remember OMFGNinja’s Spy tutorials and they made me more excited about the game than the unlock pack. It reminds me of Tribes and the way the community gradually mastered the game completely.

This was amazing. Best TF2 video I have ever seen. Highly informative and they make you want to go on and flame people.

WTG, Magno. :D Great to see this finally uploaded! I’ll sit down to watch it tomorrow night but if it’s anywhere near as good as the clips I saw before, it’s gonna be awesome.

Holy Ship! You can see Don Newman use a flamethrower!

I’d be in a lot more trouble if your average Pyro was even half as skilled or imaginitive as these guys…

Cracking video, has made me want to start playing Pyro again myself. The only annoyance is that on the UC server my ping is usually a little too high to reflect projectiles with any reliability in a combat situation.

    @Paper Shadow

They say underneath Don Newman’s flamethrower…… is another axe.

“The Pyro is probably the best Spy checker in TF2″? How about definitely? (:

Cool videos. You can tell that the custom cross hairs can really help out with aiming the Flare Gun.

I must practice doing some Pyro rocket jumps.

Oh man, TPMX, this is a good vid, but the server was just flooded with Pyros trying to airblast everything after they saw this. Just goes to show how much influence these guys have.

@Pyrit: you’re quite right. I was one of them :P

Here is where my mind got severely blown:
“I could have moved to the right, but he would have landed on the health.”

Jesus H. Christ.. Please excuse me while I’ll go sit in the spawn room’s corner and sob for an hour.

Also Justice was a fine choice.

Interesting you put this up today, as I’ve been learning to play the pyro all week, and just unlocked my Axtinguisher earlier.

This was rather helpful, thanks. Though, I’m far from being a career pyro. Also, don’t see the real need to axtinguish scouts, if you’re that close, might as well burn them. S’pose axing is more fun. :P

  21. Psyduck responded on 26 Apr 2009 at 1:56 pm #

I’m finding it really difficult to get practice with reflections lately. The population of soldiers seems to be dwindling into extinction.

  22. Himmelstoss responded on 26 Apr 2009 at 5:20 pm #

    @Psyduck:

For all you know, the pyro boom came about because of this. :3

At least you can semi-reliably pull off the airblast jumps. I’m still trying to get the hang of those.

  23. AlphaTM responded on 27 Apr 2009 at 3:12 am #

Okay, so THAT’S what ya’ll were talking about on the ATF server. Okay. Yeah, that is rather helpful.

These are the types of articles that brought me to ubercharged in the first place, and I’m always glad when someone in the community produces something capable of teaching even seasoned pyros a thing or two. Thanks to the video creators for producing and ubercharged for bringing to the masses!

Awesome video, but I wish they included one of my little tricks >:)

For my trick, you need to be a pyro and facing a demoman who uses stickies. What to do is stay back as he bombards you with stickies, pelting him with your shotgun. When he lays 1 stickie down on the ground, position yourself so that when he detonates it, you jump and do a stickie jump towards the demoman :D

  31. Monchberter responded on 29 Apr 2009 at 9:44 am #

Incredible. I feel this will really add something to my pyro career! The ‘light up’ + airblast + axe is a favourite of mine.

You forget to mention Natascha when mentioning heavies. Sasha is already hard enough to get close to as is, but Natascha pretty much destroys Pyros, as well as any other light class. If the heavy even touches you with a few of those bullets your chances of an axe swing or even taking out half his life is pretty much nil.

Not even CB would help much here as you’ll have no speed to retreat or advance while the Heavy can just readjust his aim after a second (or smarter yet just keep the crosshairs where they where and land aiming at the exact same place).
