Epic Gold Rush Last Stand
Cubic_C posted this one in the forums.
It’s a 10 minute stand off on the very last cap of Gold Rush (you know, the one that goes BOOM) in a competitive clan game between Frag Test Dummies and Super Squirrels A 10 minute stand off is pretty epic in itself, but this one has been skillfully edited with dramatic camera angles, and climatic music. The whole thing is like watching some intense action movie.
Download the 720×480 high quality version from here:
http://www.own-age.com/vids/13887So that it can be uploaded here, it has been reduced slightly. The opening and closing titles have been mostly cut.
——————–On the 24th of September 2008, FTD faced SSQ in the first week of Wireplay’s TF2 league Season 3. The closing minutes of the Goldrush game were so intense, they had to be shared!
The footage is all from the SourceTV autodemo made of the match.
In the great majority of this film, SSQ are the attacking BLU team and FTD are the defending RED team.
This overdramatic over-the-top film took Golem a couple of weeks of very little sleep to put together. It’s styled after a war epic and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

Oh man, I would never even want to even try playing against that red heavy.
What happened to the spies?

Awesome video, these guys kick a lot of ass.

Ack no spies… must have had an agreement.

Wow… That Soldier battle in the middle of the vid was epic. It’s sad that we didn’t see any good Scout gameplay. A truly skilled Scout could have caused a lot of damage, especially if he was playing Red and was heckling Blu’s spawn.
Corodan responded on 07 Dec 2008 at 5:51 pm #
Man… I think I wet myself watching that. Poor Scout. He tried so hard at the end. WHERE IS THE DRAMATIC CLIMATIC… death by pushing the cart into the bin and breathing a sigh of relief as it’s your last breath?
…No spah’s sappin’ my stuff!
P. H. responded on 07 Dec 2008 at 6:30 pm #
Epic. That last-second über around 8:30? Pure awesomeness. And superb editing, for a second it left me wondering if the Heavy would make it to the cart.
Reminds me of all the times I’ve seen Red defend the last cap on Dustbowl for 20 minutes, only to lose in the final seconds. Good times, unless I’m in Red.
Nosedigger responded on 07 Dec 2008 at 10:29 pm #
This video made me raise my eyebrows for all of two minutes, before I realized that the one behind the camera and editing was an inexperienced one who rather clumsily tries to engage the viewer with the same visual tricks and effects over and over (with no strong payoff for the watcher, either). It definitely wasn’t something I’d call terrible, but just as definitely not superb or GLORIOUS.

T’was quite pr0. I’d like to see the actual demo and some commentary on the match. Also, I have to agree with Nosedigger.
Sausage Fingers responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 2:18 am #
EPIC. That’s what TF2 gameplay is about.
Editing wasn’t the best though.
LaZodiac responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 4:59 am #
Gotta admit though, for a newbie editor, its still pretty damn sweet.

I notice the Call of Duty 4 music. Or,at least, something reminiscent of it.
Cubic_C responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 1:09 pm #
Yeah, the music is from Call of Duty 4

Sum1 responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 3:51 pm #
Damn! Wish BLU had won at the end. Would have been a more epic, hollywood-esque ending. Still it was very good.
Sum1 responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 3:56 pm #
Also the UberKritzHeavy (or whatever) at the end was really epic.
Jigglesthefatman responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 4:45 pm #
8:25, where the heavy marches up to the payload site sounds a bit like matrix in the background
Wobblit responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 10:26 pm #
I’ve never seen a game that looks as good in videos as TF2. It amazes me every time how well suited for movie capture this game is.
People that has never heard of TF2 before can even watch unedited gameplay footage and have a good time of it.
In comparison watching anything from other FPSs like CoD4, CS, Quake etc just gets boring. These are only interesting if you’ve played the game and can tell through experience that an action was skillfull or something. TF2 footage is just basic plain fun without any past experience.
Headwoünd responded on 08 Dec 2008 at 10:43 pm #
@Wobblit: And that’s exactly how I got my buddies into playing it with me. ^^
corporal pepsi responded on 09 Dec 2008 at 8:29 am #
awesome slightly overdone no spies no scouts wish there was less slow mo should of had two of the clan leaders commentating the events
n00bie51 responded on 09 Dec 2008 at 9:25 am #
Wobblit, I don’t play Quake much, but when I watch and montage and see a player fire a rocket across the map to have it hit an opponent flying in mid-air at a thousand miles per hour, I think that’s fun to watch. I guess you’re right; if you don’t play the game and are familiar with its mechanics and gameplay, it would be more difficult to tell whether something took skill or not, but isn’t that the same with TF2?
clix responded on 09 Dec 2008 at 12:41 pm #
two medics being used on one team is not epic for that right reasons. its epic in failure
Fling responded on 11 Dec 2008 at 7:03 pm #
hm, not really a great movie, the editing is pretty good I think, but no epic fights whatsoever… seems more like two unorganised teams. Must be a good vid to show to people who don’t know TF2, but competitive TF2 is better than this.
And two medics… rofl

gelugon2105 responded on 24 Mar 2009 at 2:20 pm #
No spies, no scouts. These are marks of clans who converted to TF2 from games like the Unreal Tournament and Halo series.

Wow… great video. I really want this game even more. Great defence work by the team. That Red heavy game the Blu’s nothing but grief.
