Help for heavies
Now I know that you’re thinking: “What? the heavies don’t need help!?” Well, I have been in matches where half my team was taken out by a single Spy causing us to lose said match. So I will give you heavy lovers a guide for staying alive against spies. And yes, I am a spy.
Spycheck, spycheck, spycheck!
The most common mistake I see among Heavies is that they trust the lone person that just walked in not to be a spy! Always spycheck anyone that just came near you, or a teammate. Yes, that demoman is a spy. Don’t belive me? Does he bleed when you shoot him? Nuff’ said. When you spycheck from a distance, use your minigun. Makes no sense to try to run all the way up to him, He’ll just gouge your eye out, and it is so very hard to play with only one eye. If they are right up on you, use your fists, or your shotgun. You punch like Rocky Balboa on steroids, (besides the ones he’s already using), Give that spy somthing to think about besides killing you, like about how his funeral’s going to be.
Beware the facestab!
Lets say you just revealed that “That Pyro is a spy!”, and he turns back into his sinister shape, the spy. Don’t just keep your minigun out, use your fists! Fists are friend, come use friend! If you keep your minigun out, you’re as slow as a turtle, and are easily killed from the front, or the back. I suggest either using your fist/K.G.B or your shotgun, but this is a trade off from the sandvich, Which has been proven to cause obesity, and is responsible for 20% of all heavy death. End the epidemic now, eat a vegetarian sandvich!
Nalfang is not responsible to you being pwned by not having a sandvich.
Final lesson!
I’ve seen too many heavies just keep on walking forward, minigun spinning, even when their medic dies. Your medic is your buddy, avenge your buddy! If your medic dies, quickly turn around and see if there is a spy before you suffer the same fate as him, and have to contemplate YOUR funeral. Now, this is not always the case, but as a general rule of thumb:
- If outdoors, check to see if it was a sniper, ect. in your kill list. If you see a backstab or flamethrower icon with your healers name, turn around and smack the pyro/spy one in the kisser!
- If indoors, regardless of what got your medic to stop healing you, turn around to make sure you are not killed by an enemy.
You are nothing but little itty bitty crybaby if you don’t follow rules!
This has been a public service announcment for heavies, by Nalfang.

I disagree. As a… “heavy”… I think that they… er… we… should all just spin our guns and never look behind us. If we look behind us we’ll get sniped, and if we stop spinning a scout will kill us. Spies are unavoidable and we should surrender if they appear.
Everyone back to the base, pardner.

YAY Nalfang! Glad to see that you’ve joined the bandwagon.

I reilised that any Heavy using his minigun sucks, so I go around with my shotgun and fists/K.G.B…
I even went to a *Shudder* 2Fort insta-spawn server and see what happened. I was doing quite well…

As a heavy I recommend, no, I ORDER YOU to spump. If you don’t know what i’m talking about, you can’t play heavy.

I would like to thank those who have replied so far, and madlep for assisting with my first post. I have a new post in store, look for it in a week or two…
It seems I am not the only spy!

No matter how many people you spycheck, we Spies will also find a way to plunge our lovely knife into the fat deposit in your back. The sucking sound of ripping it out makes it way too satisfying.
And if that fails, we go Sniper.

These are problems I see with most heavy players.
FOV too low.
Sensitivity too low.
The heavy doesn’t have a railgun, you don’t need to snapshot. Set your sensitivity high enough that you can track any scout that is circling you, without having to lift your mouse every 45 degrees. Even if you are firing your minigun, you are still able to look around as fast as you like.
and high FOV is just common sense, make sure you don’t miss that scout/spy/pyro flanking you.

Don’t use your fists against spies unless you’re trying to get tricky with KTB crits. Don’t use your shotgun unless it’s already out. Just jump away from the spy while spinning up Sasha/’Tascha and pump him full of lead.
Using fists is asking to get facestabbed, and using shotgun leaves you liable to get stabbed or shot with the surprisingly powerful revolver - if you don’t kill the spy before running out of shells in that shotgun load, you’re screwed.
All you need is good FOV, high mouse sensitivity and good awareness (keep looking around).

You know what’s a really good way to keep spies away from a Heavy-Medic combo? Make it a Heavy-Medic-Pyro trio. The Heavy and Medic serve the same purpose as before, except the Pyro acts as a secondary guard for both spychecking, and to take out any opponents that get too close for comfort.

I think all the problems Heavies have are really all down to their large bulk. They have the head the size of an ostrich egg which is an easy Sniper target and their back is so wide it’s hard to miss a backstab.
It’s a bit disappointing how even after the class update, the Heavy has gone back down to the 7th place in the most playtime stats, whilst the Medic and Pyro still rake in the most. It’s a shame, really, considering the Heavy is thought to be the most well known/iconic TF2 Class.
