Here’s Where The Real Party Is At

The Best Thing About The Heavy Update

Prior to the update, all sorts of TF2 pundits were making predictions about how much fun it was going to be owning up all the n00b heavies grinding for the new achievements. Usually there was talk of how much mileage was to be gotten from playing spy or sniper.

While there may be some merit to this theory, and the course of events has proven this to be accurate, I feel that these various armchair commentators were missing the point:

The real fun to be had is Pyro-hurting the snipers and spies preying on the n00b heavies

If you look at what actually happened, everyone was wised up to the mess after the medic and pyro updates, and Heavy gunplay was actually fairly subdued. It turned out that everyone thought the same thing, and all rolled sniper or spy and tried to hurt heavy rush that only partly materialised.

So what is one to do to stay one step ahead of the crowd trying to stay one step ahead already?

Simple. Roll pyro and hunt them down.

Snipers are my favourite. Especially on Arena maps. I think a lot of them have been lulled into a false sense of security by months of standing way back behind the lines, and taking potshots from where no one could get to them. This doesn’t work so well on Arena maps where there is generally less of a defensive layer, and it’s a more free flowing fluid front line.

In short, it’s real easy to sneak around back as a Pyro, and set them on fire from the side or back. Backburner heaven. They’re zoomed in looking the other way and don’t even know what hit them most of the time.

I think sniper gets a lot of play anyway on arena maps. A lot of people see “one hit, one kill”, and see a connection with the arena style of play. I don’t know if this is a hang over from Counter Strike, or what, but it’s not actually that useful in practice.

Seriously, when there are no medic packs around, and medics are in short supply, damage over time pyro-flames really are a death sentence.

(especially to said zoomed in snipers looking the other way to start with).

Anyway, about ubercharged.net

With rumors floating around the internet of madlep’s untimely death, and with the general nose diving and shark jumping of ubercharged.net, I’ve taken it upon myself to pull us out of the spin.

Effective immediately, this site is gonna be renamed “spoonercharged.net”. Any new posts coming in are basically about me, and how all round awesome I am. Questions? No. OK, carry on.

Your site went bankrupt. You’re sitting this round out.

I had the same idea, Spooner. I decided against it, because sniping and spywork just seemed more fun. I’m as confused and angry about the sniper situation as you are. Most of the maps have almost no use for snipers other than very cheap potshots. Arean_well for instance’s only use for non-Korean snipers is to camp looking down one of the little gaps between the train cargo and the middle building and unleashing the ever exciting and skillful chargeshot upon whoever walks by. If you can manage to score a headshot in the 0.3 of a second you see the people running through, you need a dayjob. This is hardly ever useful and if it ever is it’s shameful that the sniper bothered. I just wish people would play something mildly exciting on Arena instead of camping, particularly on Ravine.

A site about TF2 and anal sex doesn’t actually sound like too bad an idea.

nah, the best part of the heavy update is being able to use the demoman to pwn all the pyros deep in enemy lines trying to find snipers.

  14. Shanghai responded on 03 Sep 2008 at 11:40 pm #

The best part of the heavy update was going scout to kill the demomen killing the pyros killing the spies killing the snipers killing the heavies killing the scouts.
