Heavy Update Prelude

Hain sent in these kick ass pics. A foreboding vision of a bleak, dystopian, and very likely near-future.

I wanted to say something about the coming heavy update but I’m not good with words. So I drew some pictures. They are not the best but you know how Gmod does NOT grow on you.

    It truly will be inevitable.
With the Medic update, we had Medics sticking to one target, trying to bonesaw Heavies and Ubering Scouts.
With the Pyro update, we had Pyros trying to rush into a crowd of enemies and live, backburning from the front and using the Flare Gun from point blank range.
The Heavy update will no doubt bring a new meaning to the word “clusterf**k”.

    combine this :
Factory Worker: Kill 20 enemies while being recharged by a dispenser.
Permanent Revolution: Kill 5 enemies without spinning down your gun
Heavy Industry: Fire $200,000 worth of minigun rounds in a single life.

    extra fun for medics:
Photostroika: Provide an enemy with a freezecam shot of you taunting while invulnerable.

    Hmm…

Direction, if I’m there in time for the Heavy update release, you want to team up and have a crack at getting Big Pharma? Or we’ll both go Scout and get ourselves some bat humiliation. Either/or. :D

The new update will be Sniper-heaven. Thousands of big slow-moving targets. :D

Now I love heavy, it’s my favourite class, and he’s just an awsum guy. However I feel a bit let down by the weapons, they aren’t really new or exciting, unlike the kritzkrieg or the axtinguisher, for example.

I’m going to play heavy during the update week, same as always. And I’m also going to play demoman, along with my medic friend who I shall get to use the kritzkrieg. Unheard of levels of destruction shall be achieved.

I’m going to be brushing up on my spying until the heavy rush stops. The Circle of Life (Death?) usually goes Spy > Sniper > Heavy, so I’ll be taking advantage of the situation. That is, until every man and his dog picks up on this and goes spy, then I’ll focus on pyro :D . I don’t expect too many pyros during the rush, except for a few mainly pyro guys or people anticipating the spy minirush. It’ll also be nice to have a steady flow of medics instead of a ’shortest straw’ scenario before every match.

    UHYM CUHMENG FOR YOO >:D

the heavy weapons aren’t great, “MAYBE” people wont farm for them?

    FYI:
Division of Labor, is hard and Big Pharma is Damn hard!
    Soviet Union sounds gay

As an avid medic player, I’m not looking forward to this.

Bad day for every single medic. Though playing spy should be an awesome time : )

  14. Pinko responded on 18 Aug 2008 at 9:32 am #

The worst part of this is that I JUST figured out why heavy is fun, and it wasn’t my least played class after yesterday. Just in time to have it be taken over by pretty much every retard wanting to farm the achievements… D:

Oh well, spy and sniper practice time, I guess.

So… why is the Pyro cracking open a watermelon?

  16. Hain responded on 18 Aug 2008 at 9:59 am #

He thought it’d be nice to eat some watermelons with friends on a hot summer day.

  17. madlep responded on 18 Aug 2008 at 10:25 am #

@Baejung92 – Watermelons just rock. Almost as much as toast.

An epic comic, of epic proportions. 9th Panel FTW.

  19. n00bie51 responded on 19 Aug 2008 at 12:16 am #

I think the Pyro cracking open the watermelon is an extremely vague reference to King Leonidas telling his Spartans that tonight they shall dine in Hell or something like that.

  20. Hain responded on 19 Aug 2008 at 1:43 am #

    Thanks. Pyro is king.

Bad day to be a scout or medic, great news for spies and snipers….

What’s that, my two most-played classes? How delightful!

I still don’t have the Blutsauger yet.

  22. Wormbrain responded on 19 Aug 2008 at 3:51 am #

I’ll be playing medic for the duration!

Sud’s heavy achievements made me LOL

Everyone keeps predicting that spies and snipers are going to have a field day when this patch comes out, but I’m not so sure. Sure, 1 spy/sniper has an advantage against 1 heavy, but I don’t know that it scales well. Spies still need to get behind heavies to backstab them, which is going to be problematic with all those bullets flying and all those giant hitboxes blocking narrow passages. Snipers still need to charge up and aim precisely to kill heavies, and that’s going to be hard if multiple heavies are attacking the sniper (unless he has really long range). Not to mention: smarter players will take advantage of their team’s imbalance and try to counter the counter-classes (i.e., pyros and spies to kill enemy spies and snipers, respectively). Maybe heavies will be the exception, but we didn’t really see any classes dominate with either the pyro or medic updates.

Ps.- Wormbrain, thanks for that. :-P

I actually had a field day during the medic update as a pyro. I ran into a group of 5 medics healing each other and toasted them all. Easy fun! XD I also had fun as a heavy then too with all the extra healing. It might depend on the server.

Medic is THE best. not only does he have an awesome bonesaw taunt, he can KICK PEOPLES ASSES! Not to mention, he eats toast. Healthy, right? My actual favorite class is Scout right now, cuz i just go BONK and then I use the sandman taunt and a heavy flys! Hah, cry some more.
