How To Play Scout Tutorial Video
Daedalus (or EvilDaedalus, or whatever he goes by officially) has been at it again with his prolific tutorializing of the black arts of Team Fortress 2. After showing us how to play Spy, and how to play Pyro, he has pumped out a feature length schooling on being a cocky, obnoxious, little brat playing scout.
Finally here. After a tf2 update rendered all of my footage useless, I had to recap a lot of footage, and ended up with more than I could manage. Anyway, I couldn’t fit everything into 10 minutes, so I had to split it up into two parts.
Music credits are in the second video.
There’s also a merged stage6 version here:
http://www.stage6.com/user/EvilDaedalus/video/2209604/I’m just glad to get this out into the open so I can get working on other projects and free up disk space. It’s somewhat rushed but I still hope you can learn something from it.
I’ve also started a public steam group centered on my new server:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/MantaEngie/
And yes, I know the quality is horrible. I tried uploading it 3 times with 3 different codecs. Go watch the stage6 version

I was umming and aahing over whether to embed the stage6, or the youtube version. In the end I went with youtube, cause the stage6 one was 300mb, and my ISP plan gets capped real easy. What is everyone’s preference for future reference?
Elvis!, Brent, and D4rkone all emailed me to point this one out before I was slack enough to get around to posting it. Cheers guys ![]()

Excellent video.
I like the stage6-embeddings. The quality difference is so huge compared to youtube.
And thanks for a great site. Keep up the good work.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter which one you embed.
You are streaming from their site not yours.
Stage6 is much better.
funkeystu responded on 14 Feb 2008 at 11:35 pm #
I kind of prefer the youtube embedding as it’s quick, loads instantly, and uses next to no downloads (so it’s suited to the casual kind of browsing style that doesn’t really like to leave the current page). Stage6 links would be appreciated though, just in case the vid is worth downloading, seeing again in higher def or I’ve got the time for it to load. Just my 2ยข.

I much prefer the stage 6 stuff.
so much cooler than youtube!
John responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 3:48 am #
If I had to choose, I’d pick youtube, since it’s faster and I like speed. But in the end it’s not that big a deal.
Supremesonic responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 9:22 am #
This guy has got me into playing quite quite a bit now. I’m a bit rubbish, but at least I’m having fun and not constantly dying.
Oh, and the Stage6 version is far superior in quality, but for ease, Youtube it is. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Up to you.
Supremesonic responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 9:23 am #
Uh, playing the Scout, that is. I FAIL AT TYPING.
UncleSpoon responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 11:53 am #
Stage6. Getting increasingly sick of YouTube’s piss poor quality.
On a side note, anyone explain to me why this site doesn’t work properly for me in Firefox? I have to switch to IE just to read the site as links are invisible on Firefox.
madlep responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 3:15 pm #
@UncleSpoon - hmm, its probably due to my weak ass testing, and the fact I just use Firefox on OS X and barely boot up windows, except for gaming.
What version Firefox / Windows are you using?
Miksu responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 5:09 pm #
About the Firefox-problem, I’m running Windows XP (and Vista at home) and this site is working just fine with Firefox 2.0.0.12.
UncleSpoon responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 7:35 pm #
Hmm… That’s the exact setup I’m using Miksu, which means it’s a plugin nerfing it. Wonder if Adblock Plus is messing with it? Will whitelist the site and test.
UncleSpoon responded on 15 Feb 2008 at 7:42 pm #
Figured out what it is. It IS Adblock Plus. This is the offending code.
#A(onclick^=javascript:urchinTracker)
Unfortunately this is used a lot by advertisers, so unless you change the site (which I know is a bit much to ask, and I wouldn’t be that cheeky) I need to figure out how to allow it for this site, but no others.
Regardless, glad I figured it out:) Saves me from the horrors of IE.
Murdoc responded on 16 Feb 2008 at 9:59 pm #
PeerGuardian2 dosent like you either.
I have to switch it off every time i visit.
madlep responded on 16 Feb 2008 at 10:22 pm #
Hmm, interesting. Booted up Firebug and had a look at the JS tweaked HTML code. Google Analytics puts that onclick handler on the tags. It’s probably either that or Google ads that are making Peer guardian bork as well.
I’m thinking of taking them off, as Google ads doesn’t give me squat. Google analytics is kinda handy though (although I can get most of the same info from my web host stats).
madlep responded on 16 Feb 2008 at 10:28 pm #
Right. I disabled them. Let me know how it goes now.
I figure that people being able to see the site is the most important thing
Murdoc responded on 18 Feb 2008 at 7:08 pm #
PG2 now works with the main page but you have to tell it to allow HTTP to get onto the comments pages.
it is also connecting a lot to “net access corporation” at 209.123.21.143
and “limelight networks inc” at 87.248.208.10
limelight networks does a lot for valve, you have to allow a lot of their IPs to get the steam friends list to work. a bit of a tenuous link, but i dunno.
[i am only using the PG2 P2P blocklist]
madlep responded on 18 Feb 2008 at 7:24 pm #
@Murdoc - Hmm. That’s weird. I’ve taken off all the external Javascript type widgets now. There is just vanilla HTML and CSS now on the site.
Only thing I can think is that its the stage6 and/or youtube videos that are embedded that are doing it. Try looking at a normal page like http://www.ubercharged.net/2008/02/13/tf2-red-and-blu-wallpapers/ and let me know if you still get issues.
If it’s just connections back to those video hosting sites, I guess you’ll just have to live with it :/
Murdoc responded on 19 Feb 2008 at 3:44 am #
@madlep
tried the wallpapers post, still dosent like it when you have it on Block HTTP so its not the videos then.
oh well, like you said, just have to live with it.

I vastly prefer Stage6, but I’m fine with clicking a link, embed whatever you like.
atomicthumbs responded on 28 Feb 2008 at 6:51 am #
I’d choose Youtube, because Stage6 is closing tomorrow.
